Some fun reader reviews…
5.0 out of 5 stars How did Portland, OR become known as one of the best cities on the west coast?
I have lived in Portland most of my life and love it here, but have always been surprised by all the people I meet who visit and then pack up their lives and move here. If you have lived in Portland since the 80’s or you are interested in how Portland became, well, Portland, then you will enjoy this book. I learned things about Portland that I didn’t know, and I was reminded of things I had forgotten. It is a reminder that our city has overcome some very negative historical events and it inspired me to believe we can do it again.
My favorite sentence describing Portland in the book is, “It’s a creative spirit, protected by geography, nourished by rain, and rooted in exploration.”
5.0 out of 5 stars A tale of once and future Portland
Gestalt? Zeitgeist maybe? Whatever the word is this book captures it in a tale of Portland and the people who changed it from a sleepy sub-Seattle into an entrepreneur's buzzfest. If you're looking for an homage to a memory look elsewhere. Barry's real power is in reminding us what is possible if we just get out of our own way.
5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, WOW, and WOW
This book was an amazing look at an amazing time in Portlands history. I have learned more about how portland came up reading this book than I have learned living here for 9 years.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who lives here or is thinking about moving here!
